When I was an architecture student in college, I had some pretty rough days in the studio. Aaron would come visit me to keep me company and cheer me up. Most notably was the time he pulled his shorts up "Urkel Style," danced around and went to the vending machines. I still laugh when I picture him reaching so far up to get the money out of his pocket to put into the machine. :)

The Kiwano or Horned Melon

The taste was okay, but the amount of seeds made it really hard to eat. You're supposed to suck the gel off of the seeds and spit them out, but for me this was so time consuming!

On the plus side, they are really cool looking!

I really liked this haircut. I used to go to this place in Houston where you could get cut, color, and highlights for $80! Pretty good considering now just my haircut costs $40-60. ;)

My Grammie and Paw Paw were living with us when I was three because he was getting treatments for lung cancer at MD Anderson. I remember my Paw Paw painting my little fingernails for me!
Its a really special memory because he died shortly after and I don't have many memories of him.

Girls Weekend 2010 - Jumping Fun!

Every year the women on my mom's side of the family get together for a little trip and some much-needed bonding time. This year we went to Crystal Beach near Galveston. The beach house was really nice and the weather turned out perfect, despite a cold, rainy arrival.

From the left: my cousin Leah, my cousin Brooke and baby Ellie, my mother-in-law Lida, my mom, my Aunt Karla, and my new cousin (through marriage) Christina!

We (well, really me) decided that it would be fun to try some jumping on the beach since the weather was so gorgeous and they happily played along. :) Thanks girls!

This was my first project, a yarn wreath.

"Mad Men" inspired earrings. :)

A collar for Chloe Bear.

A pom pom necklace made out of silk dupioni left over from our wedding.

A toolbelt apron made with some awesome Amy Butler fabric (a splurge, but I love them!).

So that's a little peek at some of the things I've made from Style School. I'll post more later as I finish them. :)

Also, I'm super excited because in March I'll be taking a business from a couple of the ladies that put on Style School:

Tattoo Inspiration

I have been wanting to get more tattoos ever since my first tattoo in 2002. The heart tattoo that I got back then holds a special place in my own heart ;), since I got it in Hannover, Germany during a visit to two very special ladies, Jenny (my pen pal) and Gisela. Here are some tattoos that are inspiring me as I design and decide what my next tattoo will be.

I have a ton more favorited, but suffice it to say, I've found out (much to my surprise) that I love birds and blossoms and non-traditional designs. I have searched through so many flickr galleries without any specific keywords and these were the ones I loved! Hope you enjoy them too. :)

Something Peculiar

Something so strange and lovely just happened.

Today I was teaching an early preschool class and picked up the book, I Can Fly.

I was attempting to give the book to one of the Sp.Ed. kids I was working with, but he quickly discarded it. Before he did though I noticed how cute the illustrations were.
Cut to a few minutes ago when I am reading Elsie's post on her blog "A Beautiful Mess" that answers questions for aspiring artists and business owners. I read a question about her painting style and at the end of her response she lists some artists that have influenced her, so I think, "why not look some of them up?!" Without any thought, I look up the first person listed, Mary Blair, and these are some of the pictures I see on the google image search:

Wow! I immediately recognize her work as what I had seen earlier in the children's book. Gorgeous are they not? I am so glad I discovered Mary Blair today! It seems as though it was meant to be! :)

For some reason I have a renewed hope that with the new year things will start to be different. Of course there is no real basis for this assumption, I guess I am just really ready for things to start looking up, as 2009 doused us with a crap load of bad luck. At first, Aaron's family told us, "Well, that's just real life you're experiencing." We proceeded to tell them some of the things that went wrong and I don't believe real life has to be THIS bad. With all that said I wish everyone a fresh start in the new year. May this one be even better than the last!

Baby Boomer

Meet our new baby, Boomer! She came home today from her foster home with Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary. As you can probably tell she is a tabby, but I really love her distinct markings. In most spots she is like a gray tabby then there are little patches where her orange tabby color shows through. Its pretty adorable. At the moment Boomer is six months old, however she is extraordinarily small for her age. She's about the size (and weight) of my Rebel camera. We are just so happy to have her, although Chloe is not as overjoyed at present. Hopefully, Chloe will warm up to Boomer, though and they will be cuddling and cleaning each other in no time.

Aaron's family has a bay house near Port Lavaca. We don't get to go there often enough, but when we do we ALL enjoy it! As you can see Chloe is enjoying her limited outside time exploring on the porch. She's being pretty good right now, however there have been times when she's given us some scares by locating herself on the other side of the railing. Of course as soon as she does it, Aaron and I are rushing as calmly as we can to get her to come back around. Thankfully this doesn't happen often!

This pretty Calico is Suki! She is named after a warrior princess and the name fits her perfectly. Suki is one feisty girl. You cannot tell from this photo, but she did not take kindly to me following her around and invading her territory. Despite Suki's love for her privacy she did let me snap a few really sweet pictures, the first of which is posted below. This is for you Lida and Jim!

Stowe Family Reunion '09

Every other year my dad's side of the family has a reunion somewhere within the continental United States. This year we went to Colorado Springs, CO.

I loved seeing all of the chipmunks everywhere. We don't have them here is Austin and I find them so adorable.

We went on a few hikes, one of them to Alberta Falls inside the national park.

I am a huge fan of modern architecture, so it was such a great treat to make a quick jaunt to see my dad's cousin's home in Denver.

Our Sweet Boy, Django

Django was our kitty for such a short time. We adopted him when he was 13 years old and got to spend the next three months falling in love with his sweet disposition. He had many previous medical conditions that we were unaware of, but I will forever be grateful for the chance to give this boy a home. I have a feeling he did more for Aaron and I than we were able to do for him. We still feel such an attachment and love for him. He was such a calming presence in our house and will always be missed! Meet Django.

Summer Days... Are Gone Again

It was an exceptionally hot summer in Austin this year. Despite times like the fun we had below, I'm glad that the cooler weather is here (and so is our pocket book).

This photo of my friend, Lacey, was taken on the Comal River with a disposable camera then processed a bit in Photoshop. I thought it was a fun and powerful image of a summer day.

Neo Cat

This is Neo, my precious tabby. He was MY first cat. Then I went off to college and he became attached to his yard, his special spot by the window where he suns, and... the squirrels. We tried so hard to keep this boy as an indoor cat, but alas he was meant to roam (at least around the neighbors yards). Neo is the strong, silent type (unless he wants outside in the middle of the night, then you'll hear about it). I miss my boy, but at least I know I can always go visit him at the place I once called home.

Meet Lucy! Miss Lucy is the sweet lab mix of my lovely husband's parents. I guess that would make her my dog-in-law. :) She truly is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met and it doesn't hurt that she has one of the nicest families either. I'm sure Lucy will become a staple on the blog as well, since we do love to go visit our families in Houston.

Tuxedo Cat Photography is Austin, TX based animal-lover and photographer ME!, Sadie Woodul. As the name implies, I love animals and capturing their many personalities and antics, but I love capturing images of the human variety too. My style is to naturally reflect the true character and interactions of the family in front of the camera. Each session is designed to present a series of photographs that freeze-frame you and/or your family (human and pet alike) at a meaningful time in your life. My goal is to be as much of a "fly on the wall" as possible to get images of real life. Real curiosity. Real joy. Real love. We can always add fun props, outfits and locations, but generally, the beauty of your life un-posed is always the best subject.
